§ 03 — APPROACH

How the work is conducted

Written scope before work begins

Every assessment results in a written summary of what will and will not be altered. Nothing proceeds without your agreement.

Photographic record at intake

Each piece is photographed in detail before any work begins. The record is yours to keep alongside any condition dossier produced.

Period-correct materials and methods

Lubricants, components, and finishing techniques are selected to be appropriate for the movement's era and construction.

Candid discussion of parts and cost

If a component needs to be sourced or fabricated, this is discussed openly before any commitment is made — no surprises mid-job.

Water resistance testing where applicable

Crystal and gasket work is followed by a pressure test to the case's stated rating, using calibrated equipment.

Condition dossiers for heritage work

Significant rebuilds are documented in a bound dossier with macro photography and a written account of every intervention carried out.

Questions about the process

How do I submit a piece for assessment? +
Send an enquiry through the contact form or call the workshop directly. We will arrange a time for you to bring the piece in, or discuss posting arrangements for out-of-town customers. Nothing is committed until you have seen and agreed to a written scope.
Do you work on all watch brands and movements? +
We work on a wide range of mechanical watches, with particular experience in older movements. We assess each piece individually and will tell you honestly at intake if the work required falls outside what we are able to do well.
Will the original dial or hands be altered without my knowledge? +
No. Original dials are never repainted or significantly altered without explicit written consent. The pre-work photograph set and written scope document precisely what will and will not be touched.
What happens if an obsolete part cannot be sourced? +
For heritage movement work, parts availability is discussed candidly at assessment. If sourcing proves difficult during the job, we contact you before proceeding. Hand-fabrication of certain components is within our capability and is discussed separately in terms of cost and timeline.
How are timelines estimated for heritage rebuilds? +
Timelines for heritage movement work are set case by case after assessment. The 8–16 week range covers most pieces; more complex jobs or those requiring overseas parts sourcing may take longer. We discuss this openly and keep you informed of progress.
What is included in the crystal replacement service? +
Crystal removal, selection of a correctly sized replacement in mineral glass or sapphire depending on the case, new gasket fitting, press-fitting to the correct tolerance, bezel realignment, inspection of the case tube, and a water resistance test to the case's rated depth. Most pieces are returned within five working days.
